Architectural Design I
This introductory module delves into architectural design by exploring the relationship between self-perception, body, and construction. Through studio exercises, participants will grasp core design principles and spatial concepts. Emphasis will be placed on understanding anthropometrics and designing spaces based on user movement and experience.
Reflection
Throughout this module, I delved into diverse sources to cultivate design concepts, skillfully integrating architectural elements to articulate spatial narratives. I came to appreciate how individual identity and bodily experiences intricately shape our perception of space. Understanding the nuances of materiality became pivotal in enhancing the experiential essence of my designs. Moreover, I honed my skills in manual drawing and model-making, enabling me to effectively communicate and bring my design visions to life.
About The Lectures
While this module comprised only a handful of lectures, each lectures significantly enriched my comprehension of architecture, elucidating its foundational concepts. Beginning with the rudimentary elements of points, lines, and surfaces in architectural design, I progressed to grasp diverse design principles and their applications. Furthermore, exploring spatial dynamics and understanding how spaces evoke varied emotions was particularly enlightening. This incremental exploration and evolution of architectural concepts have been invaluable in deepening my appreciation and understanding of the discipline
Learning Platform
Tutor & Module Coordinator
The learning platform for this module mirrors that of other courses, offering a broad range of resources. However, the face-to-face sessions stand out as an essential component of the learning experience. With 4-6 hours of tutorials weekly, these sessions are invaluable. Despite their brevity, they provide a unique opportunity to receive personalized feedback and insights from the tutor. This direct interaction not only refines our design visions but also empowers us to articulate our concepts more comprehensively. Given the choice, I would always prioritize face-to-face learning for its unparalleled benefits.
In this module, Mr. Eric Chang, my dedicated tutor, has been a cornerstone of my learning journey in architectural design. His deep expertise coupled with constructive feedback has consistently honed my skills and reignited inspiration during moments of uncertainty. His genuine support for our ideas fosters a collaborative spirit, enhancing the learning environment. While I also value the contributions of Miss Yan Yee, our module coordinator, it's Mr. Eric's unwavering commitment that has truly elevated my understanding and passion for the discipline.
