Building Construction & Materials
This module focuses on fundamental building construction and materials used in small to medium-scale projects. It covers key building elements, including substructure and superstructure, and explores common construction materials like concrete, masonry, timber, metal, and glass. The module examines each material's manufacturing process, properties, and typical applications. Students will participate in ongoing assessments, including assignments and tutorials, to achieve the module's objectives.
After completing the Building Construction and Materials module this semester, I believe it is an essential course for all architecture students. It provides a solid foundation by introducing basic materials and construction methods commonly used in architecture. I’ve been excited each week as the lectures introduced new materials and building structures, often covering aspects of daily life that I hadn’t previously understood in depth. This sense of discovering new knowledge has kept me engaged and enthusiastic about the class. The course is well-organized, and the teaching, particularly from Mr. Edwin, has been excellent, effectively addressing any questions I had about construction and materials.
