Architectural Design II

This module explores design thinking principles and methods used across various design fields, including architecture. The studio focuses on the relationship between users and their natural environment. Students will start with precedent studies of architectural spaces and construction, then explore form and space through conceptualization, and finally design a small freestanding structure that meets user needs and integrates with the site context.

After 14 weeks of Architectural Design 2, I've gained much more knowledge and improved my mindset significantly. Unlike the previous semester's focus, this module emphasized designing spaces that users can actually inhabit, like the observation deck in Project 2 and the hideout retreat in Project 3. We also learned to create analytical diagrams and conducted site-specific investigations. Although these 14 weeks were challenging, I benefited greatly, especially in considering user needs and site conditions for the hideout retreat. Initially, I struggled with where to begin, given the many factors like space, user anthropometrics, and site conditions. However, through careful analysis and problem-solving, I successfully designed the hideout retreat. What makes me happiest is that I've pushed beyond my limits. Compared to the first semester, I've mastered some design techniques and feel more confident in designing what I envision. I'm especially grateful to my tutors, particularly Ms. Alina, whose suggestions, encouragement, and corrections made my Architectural Design 2 experience smoother and boosted my confidence.
